As Thomas said, DNA is a deoxyribonucleic acid molecule. It is usually made up of two polynucleotide chains coiled around each other in a spiral or a ‘double helix’. Polynucleotide chains are made up of four bases: (adenine [A], thymine [T], guanine [G] or cytosine [C]). The various combinations of these A, T, G and C bases is the code that contains instructions for the growth, multiplication and function of most living organisms.
