The honest answer to this is that my family has been affected by an inherited disease and I experienced first-hand the huge impact that it can have! I found at school and university that this fuelled my interest in genetics and the mechanisms behind genetic disease – I found it a lot easier to listen carefully and take notes on a subject that was personally relevant to me! It then became a passion of mine to use science to try and help other families in the same position.
