Isabelle Storer answered on 11 Nov 2021:
I took art, psychology, philosophy and ethics, and biology. When I was in school I wanted to have a career in fine art, but my parents persuaded me to take one STEM subject. During my A-levels it turned out that I loved the biology lessons the most, so that’s what I went on to do at university. It would have been easier for me if I had taken chemistry and maths too, but I loved studying the arts and wouldn’t change it!

I took Biology, Chemistry and Maths, at this point I did not know that I wanted to be a scientist but these were the subjects that I enjoyed the most!

Becky Cohen answered on 12 Nov 2021:
I took Biology, Chemistry, German and Religious Studies at A-level – although I dropped RS after the first year. It sounds like a random mix of subjects but they were all my favourite topics at GCSE and I was keen to have a variety of subjects taught by teachers I knew I liked.

Craig Anderson answered on 12 Nov 2021:
I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but loved biology and thought I’d benefit from maths and chemistry but also took A/S in French and philosophy. I got terrible grades and took bad advice from my tutor so in the end I only got into university through clearing, right at the last minute.
I ended up being introduced to a field that really interested me and has been the basis for my career ever since. I’m glad things went the way they did.

Yasmin Dickinson answered on 12 Nov 2021:
I took Biology, Geography and Sociology.
They usually say to study at least two science subjects at A Level to get into a science related course at university, but this is not the case for every university.
I chose subjects I knew I would enjoy studying 🙂

I did psychology, chemistry, media studies and I did computing for AS (back when we did them across two years). I balanced my subjects between what I enjoyed and what I was good at. I actually couldn’t decide between whether I wanted to go to uni to do psychology or media studies until the day my UCAS forms had to be in!

In Poland the exams are a little bit different. In the two final years of my secondary school I took more classes in biology, chemistry, physics and maths, and my final exams were in Biology, Polish and English (Polish and a foreign language are obligatory for everybody, the third subject can be chosen).

I did Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Maths & Further Maths, and I did an AS Level in French. There is no need to do so many though! But I liked having the variety of Geography and French 🙂
