I’d quite like to do something in the construction industry. I have a few friends who are engineers/architects and that industry seems interesting.

If I didn’t go into science I would have definitely studied law. I took two science subjects and two humanitarian subjects at A-level because I wanted to keep both options open (science or law). Its really important for me to do work centered around helping people. There is actually a field called ‘Patent law’ which fuses both science and law, so I could always go into that after my PhD 🙂

I think if I wasn’t a scientist I would have loved to become either a teacher or a doctor. I actually get to do a bit of teaching as part of my job like training people to perform certain tests and giving presentations on my ongoing research which is great. As for becoming a doctor, I wasn’t too keen on spending 7 years at university plus I’m a little squeamish so I decided to go into a more ‘behind the scenes’ role in healthcare by becoming a scientist in the NHS.

If I weren’t a scientists I would probably like to be teacher. I think it’s amazing to help young people learn about the world.

I think if I wasn’t a scientist I would be a gardener of some sort – I have always loved gardening and it would be extra fun to help other people with their gardens, including maybe introducing kids to plants and gardening.
